Snow cones or shaved ice?
What’s in a name?
Snow cones are what you remember from when you were a kid. You would get a little paper cup full of crunchy, granular ice. It would have a little syrup that ran down to the bottom of the cup, so you would have to eat all of the crunchy snow cone ice on top with no flavoring. Finally you would get to the bottom of the cup where there was a little (now watery) flavoring left for you!
Shaved ice, on the other hand, is just what the name makes it sounds like! It’s ice that is shaved off the block with a very sharp blade, forming this light, fluffy texture that is as fine as the softest natural snow. When done right, there should be no crunch; each bite should be so soft it melts in your mouth. It is flavored with a syrup that adheres to the snow and sits right on top, making each bite completely packed with flavor, from the very top all the way down the last bite. It is so much better than the snow cones you might have grown up eating!
This matters to you as a customer because some vendors will call any ice-based treat with flavoring on it “shaved ice”.
Don’t be fooled. Buy from a reputable vendor (like us!) and get a genuine cup of shaved ice that will satisfy you with every bite!
